10 min from central Nelson
Day’s Track begins on Rocks Road, roughly 400 m past the traffic lights. The sealed, stepped pathway heads straight uphill between private properties. The track corridor is well-shaded by established trees. After 200 m the track reaches Grenville Tce.
The track between Grenville Tce and Moncrieff Ave was washed out during several days of heavy rain in 2011. This section was closed for several years, before being re-opened in mid 2017, with new wooden steps and good drainage. There’s also a new seat with a cool mosaic design, that has great views over the bay.
Day’s Track continues on the uphill side of Moana Ave opposite Moncrieff Ave for 60 m before reaching Princes Drive. The track continues directly across the road, dropping down a series of steps through native trees and some heritage sequoias to Toi Toi Street.
Day’s Track is great for including in longer walking circuits of the Tahuna and Port Hills.
